Biscuit jointers are fairly inexpensive though (cheap ones start under $100). You could pick one up at a home center and sell it on eBay later.
Be aware that biscuits, while adequate for things like assembling laminated panels, don't have much strength. If these joints are structural, which it sounds like they might be, dowels are much stronger.
